The prom experience

Allyson Gilbert

We all eventually have the experience of prom coming up and deciding whether we want to go or not, and if we do, who to go with, what to wear, what to do, and so on. So much work goes into prom, and because this year’s prom has just happened, why not talk about it? Prom gets planned for so long before students start getting involved, and the amount of work and expenses that go into it really deserve to get talked about.

This year, the teams in charge of prom chose “dripping in luxury” as the theme, and they did their very best to match the event to that, and so did most of the attendees. It was a beautiful venue with a well thought out plan for an event, and when I went as an attendee myself, I have to say I thought it went pretty well, and the time with my date, as well as all of our friends was a bright spot, and even if the dance itself wasn’t fun (it was), I would have considered it a good event to go to just to be able to spend time with all the people I ran into.

The tickets to get in did have a price of 40 dollars, which most people seemed to agree was too much for what was actually happening, and while I have to agree that it was semi-underwhelming, it seemed to be accurate as an event to what was likely spent on it.

In my general opinion, it was a decent event that was worth the experience, lasted a good amount of time, and had a good atmosphere to enjoy a night without a massive amount of trouble. I believe it was a good experience and for those reading who have the option to go still in their future, it would be a good choice to go.

While I was visiting, I spent time interviewing some guests to ask them questions about their thoughts on the event. I asked each of them four questions to cover the base of their feelings. The interviewees were kept anonymous, and what follows are their answers to what was asked.

Interview 1:

1. Are you enjoying the night so far?

Attende 1: “Yes, I am.”

2. Do you think it was worth the ticket price?

Attendee 1: “No, I don’t think so.”
