Peperomia plants are one of the first on the list for easiest plants to take care of. They can sometimes be called radiator plants, and are most commonly found in South and Central America. Most Peperomia plants don’t grow more than a foot high. Peperomia’s main features are its large, rounded, waxy leaves that are sturdy and super-smooth. All that’s needed to take care of them is:

  • Water: Roughly 1× per week

  • Soil: Chunky, loamy, and well-draining

  • Lighting: Indirect bright light

Aloe Vera, I would say is one of the easiest and most beautiful plants to own and take care of. Their sap (what's inside of them) can cure cuts and sunburns, and when mixed with tea or put in a smoothie can be very good for the body. This plant is easy to take care of because as it grows you don’t need to worry about changing the Aloe into a bigger pot, which I know can be a pain with other plants. The biggest thing to remember is that if you are going to use one of the leaves, don't take off more than a third of the leaf at a time. Here are the care requirements:

  • Water: Roughly 2-3x per week(spring)

  • Water: Roughly 3-4x per week(summer)

  • Water: Roughly 4-5x per week(fall winter)

  • Requires direct sunlight

Pothos is also another very easy plant to take care of, almost every plant that you should first start off with should be this one. This plant can survive in different temperatures, and does not require much care. The plant itself will continue to grow like vines. And as long as you give its leaves some support it will continue to grow to about 10 feet! Here are the care required:

  • Water: Roughly 2x per week

  • Plant will naturally dry out just make sure to eventually water it again

  • Grows and all forms of sunlight

Spider Plant’s are the never ending givers. Their leaves as they continue to grow constantly have little baby sprouts growing off of them, so at any time you are able to take off the little baby sprout and repot it to start a whole new plant growing. These plants are manageable and will make a home feel more full, with how much they grow. I find these plants look and grow best when hanged. Here are the care requirements:

  • Water: Roughly 1-2x per week

  • This plants like to dry out just water in between when it dries

  • Grows in all forms of sunlight

String of Pearls plant, is a succulent plant that grows uniquely in little pearl shaped forms. Instead of the normal leaf shape, the plant grows almost like a bead necklace, making it very fun and pretty. As long as the plant is given enough light and is hung up nicely your plant should live for about five years. Here are the care requirements:

  • Direct sunlight is needed

  • Water: Round once every 7-14 days

  • Light

“Stop the war. Don’t believe the propaganda. They’re lying to you here.” Read a poster held by a newscaster of the most-watched news show in Russia. On March 14th, while some were out celebrating pi day, Marina Ovsyannikova was risking time in prison by hijacking a news broadcaster limelight in order to protest the Ukrainian war propaganda sent out by Russia.

Marina Ovsyannikova, an employee of Channel One, disrupted Channel One’s most famous news show, Vermya, in order to spread the truth about the Ukrainian war to Russian people. Having jumped in front of the camera, Ovsyannikova is heard shouting “Stop the war. No to war.” Before Ovsyannikova could discuss her topic in more depth, the broadcaster drowned her out by talking louder and the show cut to another segment.

Refusing to be silenced, Ovsyannikova released a pre-recorded video after the protest exclaiming her shame in working for the station. In her own words, Ovsyannikova claimed that Channel One “allowed the zombification of the Russian people,” saying that even though she had worked to spread Kremlin propaganda for a number of years, she is currently “ashamed that [she] was allowed to tell lies from the television screen...” In the end, Ovsyannikova delivered a speech designed to inspire many Russians to action by saying; “We are just silently watching this anti-human regime. And now the whole world has turned away from us and the next 10 generations won’t be able to clean themselves from the shame of this fratricidal war. What is happening in Ukraine is a crime and Russia is the aggressor. The responsibility of this aggression lies on the shoulders of only one person: Vladimir Putin.” Additionally, Ovsyannikova calls her fellow Russians into action by telling them “Only we have the power to stop all this madness. Go to the protests. Don’t be afraid of anything. They can’t imprison us all.”

After Ovsyannikova’s statements were made against Putin and the Russian government, Ovsyannikova was detained. As of March 14th, 2022, she is being held in a small Moscow police station. Ovysannikova's action will most likely get her thrown in jail under Russia’s newly instituted laws making the spread of “fake” news—basically any news about the war against Ukraine that isn’t strictly regulated by Putin—illegal. This law allows a 15-year prison sentence, and to be truthful, the likelihood of her not being processed to the fullest possible extent of the law is slim to none.

With that said, Ovsyannikova's actions have had an impact. Hours after her protest, 40,000 comments flooded Ovsyannikova’s Facebook page praising her bravery. While Russia has been pushing the boundaries of censorship by arresting a little under 15,000 protesters, blocking over 25 media outlets, and banning popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, thousands of people like Ovsyannikova have spoken out and are continuing to speak out against Putin’s actions and in support of Ukrainians.

A big Chinese company that was founded by Chris Xu in Nanjing in 2008 has recently been blowing up for its cheap clothing and accessories. Shein sells cheap, really cheap clothing. Tops start at $3.00, shoes start at $5.00 and jeans start at $12.00. It is estimated that a dress sold on Shein costs half as much as one sold by Zara. The most expensive things you can buy on Shein are in the dresses and shoes categories that are mostly above $50.00. Shein generated an estimated $2.8 billion in 2019. With everyone stuck in doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic Shein took off in 2020 and now is valued at an estimated $15 billion.

Even through all its cheap clothes and accessories some might say Shein is a scam. People might say it’s common knowledge that buying from online retailers like Shein is always a gamble. Some might say that there are no words to describe how ill-fitting and poor quality the items were when they arrived.

I shop on Shein regularly, yes there are some ups and downs but most online stores are like that. It’s always a gamble. One of my favorite tops is from Shein. Some of the clothes I’ve got are pretty good quality for the most part but let’s just say I’m a little lucky. But that doesn’t change the fact you could get scammed.

Now let’s talk about the delivery. You can get your clothes and or accessories from up to 7 days to 2 weeks.. Between 500 to 2,000 new items are listed on Shein’s website every day. Shein is vertically integrated allowing it to go from design to shipping in as little as three days if you’re lucky. Zara by contrast on average takes three weeks from design to store. It ships products to over 200 countries and its main focus is on Europe, America, Australia, and the Middle East.

Similar to another Chinese app, TikTok, Shein has focused on amassing a global audience. Each step is highly digitized and integrated with another, which allows the company to churn out hundreds of new products tailored to different regions and user tastes at a daily rate. The strategy is not unlike TikTok matching content creators with users by using algorithms to understand their habits in real-time. From the research, Shein is the most used by teens. Despite teens’ affinity towards social causes like the environment, fast fashion brands like Shein are still popular with teens. Only you can decide if Shein is a Scam or Glam.
